Porto Venere, an elegant holiday destination where nature and architecture blend together in a perfect union. Once you arrive you will immediately be struck by an alternation of colored facades facing the sea, a colorful wall that will accompany you to the rocky esplanade dominated by the San Pietro’S Church.
The San Pietro’S Church , situated on the cliffs overlooking the sea, is one of the most suggestive places in the entire region. In 1256 the Genoese decided to build the church on the remains of an existing early Christian temple.

The construction is Romanesque-Gothic of Ligurian type with the characteristic black and white bands. We recommend a visit inside the church where you can see the structures of the oldest chapel and the presbytery. The San Pietro’S Church has ancient origins, in fact some believe that a temple was erected in the period of paganism a Venere Ericina (hence the name of Portus Veneris) later transformed into a Christian temple.
Below the San Pietro’S Church you will find the Arpaia cave also called Byron’s Cave , since this small ravine was the place of refuge of the homonymous poet.
